my grandpa

my grandpa, jess c. ramirez {feb 2, 1927-sept 6, 2011}

the phone rang so early in the morning that i just flew out of bed and knew it was going to be my mom with bad news. i can not believe that you are gone. i can hear your voice. i miss you so much already. i am not good with remembering birthdays but i have always known that your birthday was on groundhogs day. every year…no matter where i was living…i was sure to call my grandpa on his birthday. i love that you were missing your pinky finger. i will always remember the trips to glamis, canada, and twenty feet. i can remember it like it was yesterday when you lived in hungry valley and i used to play with the tumble weeds and ride the atc’s. i just want to go back to that time right now and hug you. i will never forget when i got a wallet from the gift store in the calgary tower and you asked if i had any money in it. of course i didn’t so you gave me $5.00. it seemed like a hundred back then. i loved listening to your stories. i love how you loved grandma. i miss you. so much. i remember when you asked me if i go to church anymore and when i said no, you told me i would be hanging on the last rung of the ladder to get to heaven. i’m not worried grandpa because i know you will be there to pull me up. i love you.

    awwwwwwwww jen! this is beautiful!!! i actually started tearing up from reading this! i am so sorry for your loss – when i lost my grandmother it was devastating, and i still think about and miss her every second of my life. i can’t imagine how sad this must be, and my thoughts and prayers are with you. i am sure he is smiling on you from above and would be so proud to read this tribute!

    I’m so sorry to hear about your loss Jenn. Grandparents are one of earths greatest treasures and they leave a massive gap in our lives when they’re gone – no words help in times like this, but just know I’m thinking of you. I lost my Pop 2 weeks ago and although I don’t believe time can heal all wounds, it does make it hurt a little less. lots of love and kind thoughts.

    Oh …What you wrote is so sweet…This is the first time I read your blog as it was from a link from “Cashmere and cupcakes”and I am sorry for your loss. I know how you must feel I lost my grandmom that practically raised me last year too. You honor him by speaking so sweetly and so kind about him that lets everyone know what a fine man he was.
