May Birchbox Review

I’ve been a Birchbox subscriber for 3+ years now and I still love the surprise element every month. Here is what I got in my May Birchbox:

CoTZ Face Natural Skin Tone SPF 40: Free of harsh chemicals, oils, and fragrances, CoTZ FACE Natural Skin Tone deflects damaging UVA-UVB rays without irritating sensitive skin. Best for medium skin tones, the complexion-matching formula blends in seamlessly and masks minor flaws. My thoughts: When I first saw the color, I thought it may be too dark for me but it actually blended flawlessly. It has a nice matte finish too. Perfect for those beach days when you don’t want to wear makeup.

32 Oral Care Effervescent Breath Crystals with IsoVoxy: Unlike gum and breath mints, which only mask bad breath, these teeth-cleaning crystals pack zinc and IsoVoxy to kill odor-causing bacteria. Once dissolved, they leave a fresh scent courtesy of natural peppermint flavors. My thoughts: I’ve received these in a Birchbox before. They are basically pop rock mints. To be completely honest, I would much prefer a traditional mint.

PIXI Beauty Shea Butter Lip Balm: This moisturizing formula contains shea butter and Vitamin E to soothe parched lips and prevent future dryness and also offers a wash of pigment. My thoughts: I liked the bright pink color…my husband is not as much of a fan…lol. It was very creamy and moisturizing. Can’t wait to check out what other colors are available!

Marcelle New·Age 8 in 1 Power Serum: The lightweight formula boasts five peptides, the amino acids that amp up collagen production and improve elasticity, plus xylitol, a natural sugar alcohol that helps skin retain moisture. These potent ingredients work in eight great ways. When it comes to lines, they smooth, provide a filling effect, and visibly reduce even deep wrinkles. They also firm, lift, and strengthen, while working to boost radiance and improve the texture of your complexion. My thoughts: I’ve only tried this once and it would definitely be too oily to wear under my makeup in the day but would be a nice nighttime treatment.

Nexxus® Color Assure™ Pre-Wash Primer: The oil-based formula seals the hair shaft, so water can’t penetrate into strands and fade color. It’s infused with moisturizing white orchid extract, almond oil to nourish strands and reduce breakage, coconut oil to add softness and bounce, and argan oil to amp up shine. What’s more, it’s entirely free of color-fading sulfates. My thoughts: It seems “oil” is in everything these days…skincare products AND haircare products. Unfortunately, it is just a little too heavy for my hair. While it is great for my ends, anything with oil leaves my roots too greasy.

Nexxus® Color Assure™ Vibrancy Retention Shampoo: This shade-safeguarding formula is infused with oil, protect strands as you wash and rinse hair, and made without any color-dulling sulfates. White orchid extract and almond oil moisturize and nourish hair, plus help prevent breakage. Coconut oil gives hair bounce and improves texture, while argan oil boosts shine.

Nexxus® Color Assure™ Vibrancy Retention Conditioner: The oils in this smoothing conditioner keep water out—and seal color in to lock in its vibrancy. Almond oil prevents breakage and provides much-needed nourishment to dry, treated hair, while white orchid extract delivers deep hydration. Coconut oil adds softness and bounce, and argan oil amps up shine.

frogquest scavenger hunt

I LOVE a good scavenger hunt. I’ve done Accomplice (interactive theater/scavenger hunt) in NYC, their debut run in LA and even once while they were in San Diego. But this weekend we (my mom and I) did a local straight-up photo scavenger hunt put on by Frogquest. It was sort of a last minute decision since my mom called me when there was just 5 minutes left in a Living Social deal. I would have preferred to have done the 21+ event held the night before but we still had a good time doing the all-ages daytime event. We ended up being paired up with a group of teenagers so we were a little worried about being left behind. But as soon as they said GO, my competitive side kicked in and I was ready to leave them all in the dust! We planked on bike racks, hugged & slow danced with strangers, searched for bonus point treasures and I even got a piggy back ride from a complete stranger. Every challenge had to be photographed and emailed in so they could keep track of our points. The hunt was three hours long but the day actually flew by. Sadly, we didn’t win, but we really ended up liking the kids on our team (super sweet & polite)! Oh, and my mom didn’t believe that I would share the pic of me and my twin (the leprechaun) jumping for joy on the blog…so mom…the top left pic is for you! Have you ever done a photo scavenger hunt???

My post title has nothing to do with anything. It just popped in my head as I stare blankly at my screen. I am totally behind on my inbox, the house chores are piling up and to make matters worse…I just chewed off my brand new manicure. Boo! I think I’m going to call it a night and go make me a bowl of mint & chip ice cream with chocolate syrup. Which reminds me…remember that cleanse I told you about? I lasted a day and a half. I wasn’t prepared for the massive debilitating caffeine headaches so I did what any winner does…I quit. LOL. Maybe I will have an apple instead.  Nahhhhh.

OOTD: Go Bold

clover canyon mamacita dress

stella & dot norah necklace

clover canyon

I splurged on this dress during the Shopbop friends & family sale. Clover Canyon is known for their vivid eclectic prints and I just fell in love with the unique cut of this dress too. Normally I would keep accessories to a minimum with such a bold dress but I thought my neon Stella & Dot Norah necklace just paired with it perfectly!
