Grateful

today i am grateful

Image via.

After a stressful last few days dealing with being evacuated, NOT sleeping, etc., etc., I am finding it a little hard to get back into “blogger” mode. I have never been more thankful for social media than during the last few days. Only this time, it wasn’t to check on my blog stuff but instead, it was how I got the most current/accurate info on the fires burning all around San Diego. I literally slept maybe 45 minutes the first night we evacuated. I was awake the entire night just pressing refresh non-stop to get updates from my community’s town council facebook page, the local fire department page as well as from my neighbors pages. I don’t know what I would have done without it. Social media gets a bad wrap most of the time but today…I am so very grateful for it. And thank you again for all of your prayers & well wishes. I will be back to blogging as usual tomorrow! xo

Poinsettia Fire Alga Norte Park Carlsbad

It started out as a normal Wednesday morning except instead of going to Stroller Strides, I decided to take eep to a community pool since it was going to be a scorcher. We met up with three of our close friends and were having the best time. But about ten minutes after we got in the pool, I saw a big billow of smoke coming up from behind. About ten seconds later, the fire alarm went off. I grabbed my son out of the pool and ran out of the building. I was very shaken up because I just wanted to make sure we got out of the parking lot and then panicked because it was so close to so many homes. I called my husband and told him to please come home early since I was so freaked out. A few hours later his office (where my mother also works) got the reverse 911 call to evacuate. This is about 15 minutes from my home but we knew that with the extreme temperatures & Santa Ana conditions that we would gather up our important documents and get all of our photos, computers, etc. ready…just in case.

San Elijo Hills Twin Oaks Valley Fire

Then a few hours later, we saw this from our house. A new fire had broken out closer to our home…so we decided to evacuate. A mandatory evacuation notice was issued at about 2:30am.

Harmony Grove Fire

This was the view as we left Wednesday evening.

The Carlsbad fire has since been contained (dozens of families lost their homes) but what is now known as the #Cocosfire is still burning. We are still under evacuation orders but I am hoping for better news today. The temps and wind have died down but there are still several fires burning all around the county. It’s been a crazy couple of days. Thank you for your emails, texts, and messages. My family is safe and I am SO grateful for the tireless efforts from our firemen and for the many homes that they have saved. I’m sorry if this post doesn’t make much sense but we haven’t had much sleep around here. Thank you for your continued thoughts & prayers.

Today I am starting a 7 day cleanse. After celebrating my birthday & Mother’s day weekend with Mexican food, margarita’s and cake from my fave bakery…I’m pretty sure my body could use a detox. But here’s the thing…I thought I was going to do a 3 day juice cleanse a while back and I didn’t get through the first drink! This one involves eating clean…um, I eat candy for breakfast/lunch/dinner so pretty sure eating half the amount of sugar alone will make this a success. But at least this cleanse involves shakes so here’s hoping they taste good! Wish me luck!

CAbi Mothers Day

My son has grown up going outside with momma to take her pictures. I literally started this blog when he was just four months old (holy cow, time flies)! And every single time we go out he’ll say, “Momma, do you want to take a picture with me”? And of course the answer is ALWAYS yes. I could totally make a shutterfly book of just pics of us posing together. And in fact, I just might. He is currently obsessed with shoes and will change them at least five times a day. These red boots are on constant rotation…even if it is boiling hot outside. But they sure make for cute pics! I figured since it is Mother’s Day weekend (AND my bday…woot woot), these pics would be a perfect choice for today’s post. Wishing all of you Moms out there a very Happy Mother’s Day. xoxo
