anthropologie faux leather dress

I bought this dress months ago and had to wait forever to get it because it was back ordered. I wasn’t in love with the fit so I had planned on returning it. And then with the hustle and bustle of the holidays (or me just being unorganized), I lost the receipt so now I’m keeping it. I love the color and the length but it bunches in the waist. =( So it may end up in my Poshmark closet soon. Maybe. =)

I’ve been wearing skinny/boyfriend jeans for so long now that any other cut almost feels outdated. I’ve got piles of boot cut, straight legs, flared and even a pair of wide leg jeans waiting patiently in the back of my closet to be worn. But I came across these flares on a recent trip to Anthropologie and decided to give them a whirl. I love the dark wash and that they aren’t TOO fitted right above the knee. BTW…I know a lot of you loved these wedge booties that I’ve worn a million times on the blog…well, guess what my friends…they are BACK IN STOCK (and in multiple colors). I promise you that they will be the best $60 you ever spend on wedges. I get compliments every time I wear them. In fact, I think I may buy another pair in black as a back up!

American Hustle

As soon as I saw the previews for American Hustle, I knew it would be on my MUST SEE list! I was born in the 70’s but OH HOW I WISH I was could have experienced 70’s fashion! And don’t even get me started on the disco dancing. It would have been SO on. I am seriously obsessed with ALL of Sydney Prosser’s  (played by Amy Adams) looks! She had over 40 costumes in this film including the iconic DVF wrap dress (seen below), gorgeous plunging neckline Halston gowns and full leather jumpsuits. Oh, and one very sexy crochet bikini!

American Hustle

I was so inspired by the fashion in this film that I decided to create my own 70’s look (inspired by Sydney…obvi) using items in my closet. Just like Sydney, I bought my first DVF dress when I moved to NYC. It was kind of a “rite of passage” for me even though it was TOTALLY not in my budget at the time. But it was worth EVERY penny.

Award season is one of my favorite times of the year! But as much as I love to see who wins the awards, I really watch for the fashion! The Golden Globes did not disappoint this year…from dazzling metallic gowns to beautifully embellished numbers and more! But my favorite trend of the evening would definitely have to be all of the “ladies in red”! I mean, as soon as Lupita Nyong stepped on the red carpet in that stunning caped red gown, I knew it was going to be a night of fashion to remember. It was by far my favorite look of the evening. Amy Adams kept with the “American Hustle” theme and rocked a plunging neckline like no other and takes my 2nd place vote. Last but not least, Julie Bowen from Modern Family looked so beautiful & ladylike in a colorblocked Carolina Herrera dress. Each of the ladies kept their jewelry simple and understated so that their gowns stole the show. And it totally worked. Even though all three of my favorites were wearing a red gown, each one of them showcased their “One of a Kind” style perfectly.

Today I’m partnering up with Diet Dr Pepper to share how I integrate  “One of a Kind Red Carpet Style” into my daytime wardrobe. I actually wore this poppy red dress on the blog a few months ago but can’t wait to wear it again after all of the Golden Globes inspiration. For a daytime look, I paired it with nude heels and a few chunky layered necklaces. Next time around I am going to have to find a pair of orchid hued heels to pair it with a la Julie Bowen.

So my friends, how do you incorporate red carpet style into your daytime wardrobe? Do you add a statement necklace/earrings or perhaps a faux bob? Let me know in the comments!

My husband surprised me with these jeans last year (or was it the year before?!?!) for no reason at all. It was probably one of the sweetest things he’s done since I’ve known him. But I feel bad because I rarely wear them (this is only the 2nd time I’ve worn them)! When I first got them, I had no idea to pair them with. DUH….black & gold is one of my fave combos. Sometimes you just need to stick to the basics!
