November Birchbox Review

The November Birchbox was well worth the $10 price tag. The full size Chella highlighter pencil alone retails for $18! One of my fave boxes to date. Here’s what I got:

Aloxxi Volumizing & Strengthening Shampoo & Conditioner: The ultra gentle formula (free of sulfates, parabens, and sodium chloride) relies on apple stem cell technology to strengthen hair and encourage growth, and boasts a blend of 10 botanical extracts designed to extend the life of your color. My thoughts: I was introduced to Aloxxi hair products at Luckyfabb and have been a fan ever since. Plus I always love to receive sample sized shampoo & conditioners for my travel bag!

Color Club® Harlem Lights Collection (in Baldwin Blues): Like all of Color Club®’s polishes, each of these hues gives you long-wearing, salon-quality nail color in just a few brushstrokes. Choose from six shades: Savoy Nights, a bluish silver glitter; Apollo Star, a pure silver glitter; Poetic Hues, a glossy cream; Sugar Rays, a tan shimmer; Baldwin Blues, a sophisticated not-quite-navy blue; and Lady Holiday, a light gray. My thoughts: I’ve got quite the collection of Color Club polishes now! Excited to give this one a try.

Chella Highlighter Pencil: This brightening formula visibly lifts and opens up the eyes when used on brow bones, water lines, or inner corners, and contours the face by drawing light to the high plains of the face (like the bridge of your nose, cheekbones, and Cupid’s bow). It also helps you create a flawless finish with precise coverage of dark spots, acne scars, and blemishes, and creates clean lines around your lips when you’re rocking a bold lip color. Available in Ivory Lace, for light skin tones, and Latte, for medium skin tones. My thoughts: I usually use liquid highlighters but this works very well for brightening your eyes! And I will totally use it on my lips (cupid’s bow) too!

Fatty Sundays Gourmet Chocolate Covered Pretzels: If you expected simple pairings of pretzels and chocolate, then you didn’t come prepared. Each pack contains five precious pretzel sticks, in one of nine mind-blowing flavors: Smooth Mint (milk chocolate with some minty oomph), Toffee Crunch (milk chocolate with crunchy bits of toffee), Toasted Coconut (milk chocolate with flakes of golden coconut), Classic PB&J (milk chocolate with peanuts and tangy raspberry), Berry Granola (white chocolate with a coating of fruity granola), Mocha ‘Spresso (milk chocolate with a hearty dash of java), Peppermint Crunch (dark chocolate with chunks of peppermint), Chocolate Sprinkle Confetti (milk chocolate with rainbow sprinkles), and White Chocolate Sprinkle (white chocolate with rainbow sprinkles). My thoughts: DELICIOUS! I got toasted coconut flavor and loved it. The sprinkles ones are so cute. Perfect stocking stuffer idea!

Trends

One of my favorite things about fashion has always been that I get to be whoever I want each day (depending on my mood). My friends always say I have a distinct style but whenever anyone asks me to describe my style, I have no idea where to begin! One day I am totally feeling the boho vibe and the next I’m reaching for a preppy checked blazer. After a recent shopping trip at Urban Outfitters…this was the text covo I had with one of my besties. Pretty much says it all. LOL.

Me: Um, I am officially too old to shop at Urban Outfitters.

Friend: I love UO. But yeah, some of their sh*t is ridiculous. Btw, I have no style. Some days I think I want to be boho-hippy, other days…rocker chick, sometimes surfer girl and other times…anthro granny chic. Really, I’m just an almost 40 year old trying to stay young and hip. It’s a lost cause really.

Me: LOL. Join the club. Ha ha!

Friend: No, I think you have a distinct style. You always have. It’s sophisticated, girly with a touch of sexy momma. Before it was just sexy. Now its sexy momma.

I LOVE MY FRIENDS. =)

Shoemint Q & A

Jane image via

Jane Aldridge of Sea of Shoes collaborated with Shoemint to design the “Jane Booties” a few months ago. I LOVED them so much that I bought them THE DAY they came out. They were actually my first Shoemint purchase believe it or not! Shortly thereafter they launched their #shoemintjane contest where people were asked to style their “Jane Booties” and share them on Instagram to win a head to toe Stylemint look styled by Jane. In addition to the outfit, one lucky winner would get to ask Jane two styling questions. And guess who won? YOURS TRULY. Sea of Shoes was one of the first fashion blogs that I followed. I never would have imagined that years down the road, I would be blogging myself or asking her styling questions. Here are my two questions:

Q: I know that you frequently shop your mom’s closet for many of your AMAZING vintage pieces, but do you have any favorite online shops that you can share for finding affordable vintage pieces?

Jane: I shop a ton online and I am an ebay FIEND! The trick is saving your searches and checking every day. I’m also an etsy user. I love the forties and seventies so I stalk those tags and for the things I collect like angora sweaters. In Dallas we have great thrift stores, that’s where I stock up on luxe basics, because someones always donating their old Ralph Lauren!

Q: I am LOVING the menswear trend & looks you posted recently on Sea of Shoes…just bought a new checked blazer with elbow patches myself. But, I’m curious what is one trend that you wish would go away?

Jane: One trend I wish I would go away….its got to be ear cuffs! I think they look like a horrible disease growing on your ear but to each their own! Ha ha.

CAbi Clothing

I can hardly believe it but it has been almost two years since I attended CAbi’s 10 year anniversary celebration at CAbi Scoop. You can see my recap post here. I was one of five bloggers invited to attend and I can still remember the energy in that room like it was yesterday! Needless to say, I was thrilled when they asked me to style a few pieces from their Fall collection. If you haven’t noticed, I have been wearing faux leather non-stop so I was immediately drawn to the Owens Jacket & Ricky Leggings. Both have luxe faux leather detailing and can easily be dressed up or down. I decided to pair them with the Mix Tank & Shrunken Sweatshirt for a pulled together yet TOTALLY comfortable look. My friends and I used to cut “thumbholes” in our shirts YEARS ago (WAY before a certain sportswear retailer was even around) so I couldn’t wait to wear this sweatshirt. I’ve also always not-so-secretly wanted to be a ballerina so it reminds me of something a ballerina would wear for warm-ups or something! I’ve got to hand it to the CAbi design team…I think this is my favorite collection yet!

Selfie Collage

Let’s face it….most of us are guilty of taking a selfie or two. Some of us, more than others (GUILTY). So when this iphone case popped up in my Instagram feed, I IMMEDIATELY knew it would HAVE to be mine. I was even more excited when I found out that it was actually designed by a blogger whose style I adore…Beth Jones of B Jones Style. Beth teamed up with Caseable to create this super fun case for the “selfie obsessed”. Beth is not afraid to admit that she herself is a little “selfie crazy”. Oh also…how funny is it that #selfie is written backwards on the case so when you take your pick in the mirror, it reads correctly. Hilarious. I can NOT wait for mine to arrive!

Get your own #selfiecase for iPhone 4/4s and iPhone 5/5s only at caseable.com and be sure and use code CSBLSCOOP20 to get 20% off your order! BTW, that code is good for all caseable.com products…not just the #selfiecase.

P.S. This is not a sponsored post…I bought this case for myself after seeing it on Instagram! =)

P.S.S. If you want to go all out for your #selfie obsessed friend/family member, check out this #selfie sweater. It is sold out online but check your local stores!
